Tiny Cracks

I have a 400 sbc, While cleaning up the block I noticed small cracks in the water jacket steam hole and head bolt hole (centers) on deck surface

problem , no poblem?

That is where they usually crack. That probably means the block is done for. I have heard of people repairing them but it's pretty grim.

tiny cracks

local machine shop taps the large holes instals a 3/4 plug then drills the centers out claims to never have a problem with it

That is how I have heard of people repairing them. Just make sure it is a good shop. Good luck. Let us know how it turns out.

You can have the block repaired, I've repaired and run a few of them. The repair must be done by someone that is skilled in this type of work, as the spacing has to be correct. A shop that uses the Iron stitch method can repair this. I usually drill, thread, seal, pin and redrill the hole. Then deck the block.
