Tip of the day #20

I just got a private message and the person said they did research on panel adhesives, and they require a special gun to apply because of the dual cartridges and they are pricey. When I needed some panel adhesive and went pricing them, it was around $100 for the gun. They may make less expensive dual cartridge guns, but when I was looking I couldn't find any. So I modified a regular caulk gun since I was too much of a cheapskate to pay the $100 for something I wouldn't use that often. Below is a diagram of how I made the gun, maybe it will help someone else out. It did the job for what I needed for. When I originally made it I didn't add any reinforcement to the caulk gun, and the thin steel of the caulk gun wasn't strong enough, so I added steel strips to the sides to strengthen it. You may want to buy your tube of panel adhesive first so you know better how to make the gun.

I have to tell you, you can get those tools for much cheaper than $100.00. I am pretty certain they can be had down in the $50.00 range. Here is one for $65.00 Duramixer click here

Super job on your home made one though.

Brian

Kenneth,
That is not a good or safe idea.

Some of the companies in the past have even had problems with there own guns being off ratio when buying from overseas.

It put one company out of business, its that serious.

For bumper repair who cares, for panel adhesive, think twice.

Any good jobber will give you a gun if you buy 2-3 tubes of adhesive.

Fusor runs a special now and then where you buy three tubes of adhesive and the gun is free. If I were selling adhesives I'd have a loaner gun for the do it yourselfer to use and return with a deposit. Simple things can help you gain loyal customers.
