Tip of the day #3

I found a great stir stick for small cans of paint, like pints.
They're called "jumbo sticks" and basically they are just like
tongue depressors that you find in a doctors office.
They are 6" long, 3/4" wide and can be bought at Wall-Mart
in the crafts section. They are 100 in a pack for $3.00
Popcicle sticks are great too for those smaller mixes.
I keep both.

That's cool Jim,I just take the regular wood sticks and split them in half and then half them in two.
I use an old butter knife for my small kandy's as the metal show's the concentraition better, akin to the silver base your usually shooting over than the wood.
I'd like to find a big, long metal mixing one for the qt.'s but haven't found one I like yet.Maybe one of those cake slicer, server things and cut it down to size.

sticks

I like your tip posts, Jim.

I use the smaller sticks also. I sometimes mark them with lines every 1/4 or 1/2 inch for mixing small batches of primer or paint. 2 to 1 mix ratio-pour 2 lines then 1 line and stir.

re: Tip of the day #3

My tip is if you are painting on the labor day weekend, be prepared and have all the supplies you need or find someone to do it for you. Got a call saturday afternoon from someone asking if I had any dupont chromaclear, every place closed for the holiday. Nope I don't have any dupont. Felt kinda bad I guess. Lady said her husband was out painting an old truck and needed to get it done and put back together, had base sprayed and not enough clear or something. It already was his second time painting, because someone was spreading grass seed ? and it got loaded with it while he was painting. I cant imagine where he was painting this truck, probably cheaper for him after all that to have just brought it somewhere to be done.

And when you are done with them you can sneak them back into the container at the doctors office.

Latex gloves too.

TIP #4 !!

re: Tip of the day #3

Thanks for the tip, jcclark! I'd actually looked in several stores for these and not found them...didn't even think of Wally-world! In a fiberglass laminating project, it's a real hassel to either make stirrer sticks or to clean up already used ones. This should save some time!
