Tips on how to fix this hole in my metal dash

At some point in my VW bus's life someone decided the ignition should be a push button. So now I have this nickle size hole im trying to get rid of.

To start the repair I put some support behind it and first filled the hole with Tigerhair. Then i used a little Bondo Gold a friend had laying around and put a lite layer on to fill the hole smooth. I decided I didnt really like Bondo (no surprise) so wiped it off smooth with some lacquer thinner so I wouldnt have to sand it smooth and hit the paint.

Thats where I am now. I thought before I tried anything else I'd ask some experts and see if theres a good product(s) or technique out there I should try. Its single stage paint so once its done Ill hit it with some paint and hopefully color sand it until it matches.
