Tire Width on 3rd Gen F-Bodies

Does anyone know how wide you can go on a Third Gen F-Body before you start rubbing rubber on the fender well? I'd like to upgrade to a larger wheel (Currently running stock 15X7) on my 84 Trans Am and have a chance to pick up a set of 17X9 wheels for around $400.00 but if I can't fit them without modification, I'm not going to do it. Thanks!
