Question Tire Widths

I am wanting to put wide tires on the back of my 77 chevy. How wide are the tires going to be on 17x11 in rims? how would you modify the frame?
Thanks BD <img src="confused.gif" border="0">

Why would you want to modify the frame? What kind of car is it? On last weeks HRTV they put some 17x11's on the rear of a 72 camaro. If you have the right backspacing on your rims you won't need to do anything to the frame. Go to the Yokohama tire website they have a free catalogue you can get that will tell you all you need to know about tire fitting and how to determin how wide you can go. They have all their tire specs in there as well.

This might sound bad but here goes I have a 49 chevy truck body mounted on a frame out of a 77 chevy truck for different reasons. I thought you would have to move the frame closer so that the tires would fit in the fenders, I know that I will have to put tubs in the bed. I know that with 15in rims you can have 31in tires, I dont know how to convert metric, and was wondering if anyone had 11in rims and knew how wide their back tires were.

The conversion factor for metric is 25.4mm to the inch, this would mean an 11 inch rim is approx 280mm wide. Whatever tire you buy will determine the actual tread width.
