Tires??

Ok, so today's topic is: Do the size of my wheel/tire effect my acceleration and speed? Example.....will a vehicle with the same motor performance specs, etc.. perform better with 17x9 wheels with 235/60/r17 or with 20x8.5 with 285/50/R20's installed?

The diameter of your rear tires has the same effect as changing the rear axle ratio.

How so? so is that like the bigger the tire, the lower the gear ratio? or higher? ie.....20" wheel 3.23 as opposed to 17" wheel being 3.55's?

Just imagine that you had a 26" tire on your vehicle. Then you took it off an put 40" tires just for an example. Which would excelerate faster. The shorter tire would. Also the heavier that the tire an wheel assembly is that you are trying to turn the more HP it takes to do so. In turn the slower it will be an the longer it will take to get too speed.
