tires/rims specs

I have trouble with knowing what size rims and tires to put on my car. I was wondering if someone could tell me what each number stands for and how you know which size rim to put with which size tire. Thanks.

the tire should be no more than 2 inches wider than the rim
talk one on one with an alignment guy that understands S.A.I. and can explain it to you about your car. Handling can be greatly improved or ruined with tire /rim choices. the geometry of everything is affected by size changes,especially when rake is factored in
