Talking Today- I got it started!

If some of you guys remember a 1940 Chevy some guy found in a garage falling down on his street, this is me! (I haven't been able to bug the guysince I have too many projects right now. Search the forums for any threads started by me and look up something under "identify this car" or one about a '40 Chevy in the garage forum if its still there)

THE POINT: I was at my grandma's house today. She has a pole barn. Inside that pole barn, among other fascinating old stuff (Ford 8N tractor, old paper shotgun shells, stuff like that) is my dad's "fairly decent and 100% complete" 1974 AMC Javelin. It's green out and in (my girlfriend thinks its too green), has a 220HP 360, 4-speed with factory hurst shifter, and 3.43s out back. It was last registered in 1996.

I pop the hood, and oil that sticky latch. I find a dead mouse and some 'cotton candy' insulation on the intake manifold next to the Holley 650CFM carb, and I remove it and check the oil and other vitals. I yank the old bettery out, put my new mopar battery in (I work at a dodge dealer (I'm a GM guy but its a job) and it was in a Viper, and someone bought it and it was dead, so they put a new juice box in it, and I adopted and charged the old one.).

I discover I have broken the bolt on the + end of the battery, so I use a handy pair of vise-grips to clamp it on really good. I turn the key, all electrical seems ok, and a little further and she cranks. I put some gas in the tank. No start. A little down the carb. A little more cranking, and she fires right up after 8 years of storage! Just to let ya guys know.
matt

Got to love those pole barns, are you going to get the other car also? It was itching to get out the collapsed barn.

The only thing cooler that year than the javelin was an AMX. Start collecting, you've got a great start. Dan

I thought the old Javelins were ok cars. my cousin had one with a 6 cylinder automatic. I liked the body style but was not real impressed with the performance. But with a a 220HP 360, 4-speed, and 3.43s. That sounds good to me.

One of my neighbors had 2 AMX's. I think they were powered by 390 cid AMC engines. He also had a split-window corvette, a 69 corvette convertible, a 49 Ford and a dune buggy. I liked all of his vehicles, unfortunately he drowned at age 25. At least he had a good time while he was here.

the 6-bangers are reliable, but slow. I have heard that the old Jeep CJs could do a wheelstand from the factory with a 304v8.

But... I have my own ideas for a Sport Compact... take a itty bitty old Nash (Rambler? I dunno, looks like a 1950s American made Mazda miata but taller) and add any v8 that will fit without cutting the hood. Civic Killer.

Alright... I'll get some pics. hold on.

is there a way to include multiple attatchments on one post? ANy help or suggestions would be appreciated. I don't like all the hose clamps and the chrome breather and rust-and-paint everything else, and the piece of metal sign holding the fan shroud together means I should add put in an electric fan, right?

How good are the cylinder heads, shoudl I get a port+polish or just buy the Edelbrock aluminum heads?
