I just finished the front clip on my Stude and am having power steering problems. I have an early model GM pump attached to an 80 camaro box. The steering wheel and wheels turn on their own at idle. Somehow there is drag coming from the pump I assume. Any thoughts on a fix for this? Also the power assist is too strong, how can I lessen the power assist?
It's a small block pump. The pressure reducing valve, where can I get it and what pressure do you reccomend. I have a 49 Stude pickup with an 80 camaro clip and a 327.
Sorry did not read your reply correctly. Thanks for the link. I thought the reducing valve was only necessary on a gm pump to mustang II setup. Did GM make pumps with different valves or are they all the same?
A few are different but most arethe same. You can unscrew the pressure valve and see if it has a washer under the spring. If it does remove it and try it. If you don't like it then upgrade to new valve.
