TOP CHOP

I am getting ready to chop the top on a 47 chevy 2dr sedan, it will be my first top chop. I know that it will be a real challenge, but I am up for it. I would like any advice from any one who has successfully done a chop on a 47 tudor sedan, it is a fleetmaster not a fleetline. I believe that the biggest challenge is going to be the back window area. I am open to advice and hopefully some pictures. Thank you.

Bill you correct that one is going to be a big task. LOL Get some masking tape and try to lay it out first to see what you can do.I have also taken pix of the car and printed them on the printer and cut the pix just to see what wont fit and were things line up. I think you biggest challeng is in the rear window trunk area. I have seen guys cut and move the trunk area ahead but man its a lot of work.Try to keep the windsheild straight up is another bigg deal. You will see on a car that was not thought out well a windsheild that is layed back to far. If i were you i would also look for another (maybe really rotten)47 for roof parts. Its easer to mate 2 roofs than to piece the roof together with filler parts.(cause when you chop those the roof get bigger). I have also seen guys cut the top of the roof out of those cars around the rain gutter than cut the windows and fab up strip to make the roof bigger around the edges. Sorry this is so long but there are so many ways to do a chop.

Chop

Bill,
I did my first Chop 30+ years ago. All I can say to you is, Measure, Mark, Plan then do it 3 more times B4 you touch any cutting device. Phil :nono:
