top end mystery
Have 383 sbc with ported edelbrock rpm heads, ported airgap, and new solid cam specs 250/250 at .050 .580 lift with 1.6 rockers. Got everything back together today including recurved distributor, but weird thing is the distributor won't shoot spark to get engine going once I crank over. I thought distributor was junk but took direct hot from battery to distributor and car started fine. After this test I hooked the switched hot back to dist. and the car started but it seemed to drag a little before firing. No back firing or run on once started, timing is where I want it. It seems that possibly I'm not getting enough voltage to light fire initially. Do you think a high cylinder pressure creates added resistance on spark? Didn't have spark issues before all changes. I guess I'll need to get a voltage tester and rule out inadequate voltage to light the initial start-up spark. Or does it sound like a distributor issue? It's a DUI distributor that supposebly was custom curved and tested. Anyone have suggestions or similar problem in past? Thanks
