top end not getting oil on new motor

Bought a performance crate motor Chevy 383 solid lifter roller cam, a couple of years ago and finally got in my '56 this week. Primed the motor on the stand, adjusted the valves. After setting up the motor in the car and firing it up, the valve train sounded a little to loud even for solids. Removed one cover to reset the lash and found that I had only two lifters getting a dribble of oil. Checked the other side and found no oil being pumped up from the lifters. Had checked the plugs in the front (behind the timing gear) they were in, oil pressure at the back of motor is 60#. Need some help.

Jtravis....this is the introduction section, you might want to put this in the engine section for more exposure and a quicker answer.

Here is a problem I ran into many years ago on a solid lifter SBC.

There are two different types of solid lifters. Edge orfice and piddle valve.. The edge orfice lifters are very sensitive to the lifter to bore clearance. A little snug and you get no oil to the top.

Cure is to hone lifter bores. Quick remedy in the car. Remove lifter and take a small file. Make a small flat spot between main oil relief on the lifter to the feed hole above it. Only a couple of thousandts are needed..
