Torque Converter- How do I know what I have?

I bought a TH400 Recently from a guy that didn't end up installing it, so essentially it is still new. As is the converter. He told me it is a 3000 stall. Is there a way to verify this? The trans is not yet installed in the car. The converter measures 10", and the company website for the converter shows their 10" converters being 2300-2500 stall, 2500-2800 stall, and 2800-3200 stall. I'm hoping I have the latter. Could a trans shop check the stall for me, or is that even possible?

The only way to check would be to install it in a trans dyno.

And even if you knew what it was designed to be, doesnt mean its going to actually stall to that speed in your combo. Buy used TC's is a crap shoot sometimes.

Thanks Hogg. I got such a good deal on the trans so the TC was really just a bonus. If I can't figure it out I may just pick up another one!

No numbers on it that I can find. Good idea on the color code, I'll look into that. Thanks
