Torque converter identification

Hello. I have a torque converter out of a TH400 transmission that came with a sbc that is suppose to have like 450 HP. I was told that the converter has a 2,000 or better RPM stall. The markings on it are AC 1420 and C 85. Does anyone know what these marking mean? Thank you.

That is not GM OEM converter. That is a custom converter. Unless you can find out who made it, you are not likely to find any answers.

Art Carr or ACCPerformance are 2 guesses but, both paint theirs Black.
The 14020 Number does resemble an old Art Carr part # tho'. He sold his Co. named Art Carr & it's now out of business. I think they did use Blue paint.
Art's new Co. is CPT = http://www.cpttransmission.com/

Looks like a 12 inch, Built & sold by "A.C.T. Automatics" They might be on the internet? All the part # I ordered come with AC in the beginning of the part #. Yours looks like one of their 12 inch, stalls at about 2500 with a 400 ft # torque engine.

Lock up converter?

Judging by the shape of the converter housing (flexplate side) would you think that this is a lockup converter or not?

400s never used a lockup converter.

thats a smaller converter judging by the pic...the outer bolt holes looks to bolt up to a 13''converter 400 flywheel...inners to a 12''converter 350 flywheel...and even those 350 holes are allmost out of the converter circumference...and with your hand as a reference to converter size....i'll take door #3 and call that an 11'' converter.
