Torque Converter Transmission match up questions
I have an 84 2.8L automatic camaro. My transmission- 700r4. I have an offer for a 90 700r4 transmission. The only difference between the transmissions are the 90 is digital and mine is cable. I was told all I have to do is change the speedometer gear and tailshaft housing, but I was also told I need to make sure the torque converter matches up. I know nothing about transmissions, and neither does anyone else I've asked... so my questions are... Is changing the tailshaft housing and speedometer gear right? And finally is my torque converter (brand new, never been out of the box bought for the 84 tranny) going to work with the 90 700r4 transmission or do I need something else? Please help!!!!!! Thanks.... Amanda

What engine did the 90 have? if it was the V8 it won't work; the bellhousing patterns are completely different. If the 90 tranny came from a V6 car, its possibly OK.
They also will have to both be the same tranny; you couldn't put a torque converter from a three speed into a 4-speed tranny. |
