Torque rating for 4-speed Saginaw

Anyone know how much torque a 4-speed Saginaw tranny can handle before it blows to pieces? Year is a 1973 or 1974.

It depends on the gear ratio...2.54 and 2.85 will probably hold up ok to 350 pounds of torque. The 3.11 a little less, the 3.50 is the weakest. The issue is shock loading like drag strip abuse.Saginaws hold up to 600 hp on dirt track car with no shock loads. And Saginaw front bearings get worn, the snap rings get loose so unless the tranny is in top condition it will blow up pretty quick with abuse.

Thanks for the feedback. Sounds like I shouldn't dump the clutch to often since I think I'm pushing 350 lbs of torque.
