torque on shocks

does anybody know how much lb torque to apply when installing shocks.I have been tod anything from 10 lb to as tight as you can get. thanks JO

Some shocks come with a smaller bolt on top than on the bottom. Thus different torque. Max torque specs for bolts depending on size, grade, and pitch can be found here.

For bolts that go through laterally= the nuts only hold the bolts in and the shock usually has a metal tube the bolt goes through.= 25 is fine.

For stud type shocks with the "bolt" longitudinally= uses donuts = compress the donuts until a slight amount of "fatness" is seen, and lock the nuts there. I like double nutting with a self locking nut. (same for anti-roll bar end links)
