Total 700 R4 rebuild required?

I just had my local mechanic shop install a trans I had rebuilt in my 84 C 10 and discovered it started to short shift 1st, 2nd and 3rd. The installer readjusted TV cable and still had same problem. I also had other problems with the engine bogging down under load when I would try to engage passing gear. After several 1 mile runs trying to diagnose problems I noticed the trans dipstick was smoking. The fluid was extremely hot. After cooling, I did exchange 4 quarts and next day drove a few miles, came home and noticed fluid hot again. I finally discovered that the individual that changed out the trans, hook the lines backwards at the trans. Therefore, I had no circulation/cooling. He did not flush the system either as the same thing happened to the previous transmission. After installing a large hayden trans cooler, I started driving the truck and it would start out in 2nd and not change gears. When i would give the gas it would just rev. What am i looking at for repair. Does entire trans have to be rebuilt or just cleaned? Can the valve body be flushed or will I have to have it replaced. The shop that did the exchange is going to make it good but i want to make sure I end up with a good trans that i paid for. Thanks!

I do believe (know) the trans is fried, & in need of another rebuild.

If using an aftermarket radiator with a transmission cooler in it, is it critical what transmission line goes to where? I thought I read the you wanted the oil to flow to the top of the radiator and return out the bottom? Which would mean bottom to top (trans to radi), bottom to top (radi to trans).

Is this correct?

On the trans, top port pumps fluid to the cooler, bottom port receives the cooled fluid.
