towing 55 chevy

I have a 55 chevy I would like to towe to the drags. I only have a 00 ford explorer with ball mount bumper, I could get a hitch. I think a flat trailer is out. I used a bumper mount 30 years ago to towe it from NC to Texas and used a s10 blazer. I tried to fit it on a front only towe trailer but the wheels looked like it would hit the sides in a turn. Any options? How much could I towe with the bumper ball mount on the explorer?

I don't like bumper hitchs. you can buy a class III receiver hitch for $100 to $250 heck, walmart might be selling frame mounted class III receiver hitches. I know advance auto & auto zone ect. sell them, and so does the farm stores like TSC ect. you could make a tow bar to hook on the front of the 55 & drop the driveshaft on the 55 hook it to the class III reciver and go. but you need some magnet mounted lights and run the wire to feed them down the side of the car, or under it. sometimes you can find a tow dolly for a fair price.

towing a 55 Chevy

I used to flat tow my 56" Chevrolet Bracket Car all the time with a trailer hitch and tow bar I made myself and used towing hubs on the rear axle of the 56'. Towed it with a 74' Nova, and later the same Nova hauled around the single axle trailer for my Front Engine Dragster. I probably would'nt do it that way again but at the time that was all I had. The 56' actually towed better than the dragster trailer; all the weight on the dragster trailer was towards the rear of the trailer and at times it would start to whip. The tow bar bolted directly to the frame horns on the 56'; it did'nt have a front bumper, and my tool box was bolted to the top of the tow bar. It was wired to use the stock tail lamps for towing as it was a strip only car.
