towing intake manifold for 454

im checking around for an intake manifold for my 85 454,

im not 100% sure what to look for, the truck is a desert truck doubled up as a tow truck for the boat and a somewhat work truck.

and for this matter, will the stock gm manifold give me the best fuel economy over a torque intake ? or vise versa

and last of all i have a eddy carb on the truck, but i have an adapter.

thanks guys

Edelbrock "Performer" is the intake you want. It's for lower revs (under 6,000) and makes good torque. It WILL improve performance overall versus the stock Q-Jet intake. It MUST be for an "oval port" engine.

Towing intake manifold for 454

Here are two intake manifolds to choose from. I guess it comes down to what brand you like the best. They both have the same operating range. Compare - SummitRacing.com

Sorry about that link. The two manifolds I was talking about are The Weiand Street Warrior WND-8123 and the Edelbrock Performer EDL-2161. Both good Brands. Your Edelbrock carburetor will bolt to these intakes without an adapter. Do you know the casting number on your heads. Are they the oval port or peanut port heads. If the intake port are taller then they are wide, then they are large ovals! If they are wider then they are tall they are PP heads! Weiand has an intake for both heads. WND-8122 is for peanut port heads and WND-8123 is for the large ovals.

You first need to figure out what heads you have. Pull off a valve cover and read the casting numbers.

I have run q-jets, edelbrock and holley carbs on my 454. I have also used 5 or 6 different intakes. And I recommended a regular Edelbrock RPM intake with a square flange (not air gap intake) and a holley 750 cfm model 3310.

I also have a brand new elebrock performer intake in the box (spread bore, oval port BBC), that has never been used. I'll sell it for 1/3 the price of summit racing plus shipping from San Antonio. Send me a PM if interested.

If you have the stock cam, then now is the time to upgrade. Summit's smallest BBC cam is a good choice for a near stock engine upgrade.

Do you have headers? Those doug thorely tri-y's would be a good choice as they as made for torque, are coated, and have thick flanges and tubes.
