TPI Electric speedo??

I've got a small problem with my TPI speedo, it won't work!!!!!!!
It's on a TH400, I've checked all the wires twice and they are correct. The odometer comes on, the settings show up but the needle has never moved and it won't calibrate when I take it out to set the speed. I'm thinking it's something to do with the trans speed sensor but I'm not sure. When I got it I took all the numbers off the trans down to a friend of mine he owns a trans shop and they show it to be a '77 TH400, but it has an electronic speed sensor and they don't show up in any parts listing until 80 something. Thats the part that has me confused. I'm not real good with electonics so any help would be great.

Thanks guys

We use Faria gauges in our builds, pretty much the same as TPI. Its probably the sending unit. Is it a hall effect( 3 wire) or optical style? Here is what I would check:
Attach the signal sending wire (3 wire right?) to a multi-meter and see if you get a signal when you are driving.
If not, check that you are getting voltage to the speedo sender, and a ground with the multi meter.
Make sure the drive tang is engaed into the trans. Sometimes the tang will get hung up on the trans input, its a pretty small hole (.104x.104)

That would be a good place to start.

the stock sender may work, you just need to know if its a hall effect or optical style.

Mark just to let you know I did find out what the problem was. As I thought the dip---t PO put an electronic speed sensor in the trans, well like I said the '77/78's didn't electronic sensors they did not come out until 80 something. Kind of hard for an electronic sensor to work off a plastic drive gear. I've got the correct parts comming this afternoon and the external pulse generator comming on Monday.

Thanks
