You can retrofit a TPI system to an earlier engine fairly easily. Custom wiring harnesses are available to run with or without emmission systems. As for the knock sensor, you can run it with or without. It screws into the drain plug fitting on the right side of the block.

There is a wealth of parts to upgrade performance and a endless supply of information out there. I started with the Chevy shop manual.

I recently did an overhaul and update on my son-in-law's '86 IROC and was very impressed with the system...and I am a FORD guy!
