trading 87 cougar for 86 monte, opinions/thoughts ?

i have an 87 cougar rx7 5.0L and 4 speed auto i got the other day for super cheap, runs awesome, body aint the best but it will go and sounds awesome, dual exhausts and such, 15" aluminum wheels, i was gonna yank the 5.0 out and sell or trade the engine for something and junk the body and tranny and all that since i am a GM guy strictly.,

well my neighbor walked over and i handed him the keys and we hopped in it and we took her around the neighborhood real quick today, he wants the car BAD,
but he doesnt have any $
but we were looking at an 86 monte carlo down the street the other day thats in not bad of shape at all, its in better physical condition than this cougar is in,
and in better shape than most montes and such are around here, it has the 4.3 FI in it and auto trans,
its not wrecked not dented either, it has very minor couple of rust spots on drivers door,
it has interior perfect cept for sagging headliner in which they all have lol.
original copper bronze paint, common color on these 80s cars,
says it runs but i havent heard it, it has been sitting parked on a concrete driveway not moved for about a year now,

what do you think ?

would you do the trade ?

it would save me the trouble of trying to sell trade the cougar or the 5.0 engine from it, and it would get me another GM vehicle around here at the same time, and wouldnt waste the ford(like i really care all THAT much if the ford lives lol)

which do you think is worth more,

which do you think has more potential to be a driver/toy ? and why?

very few montes exist here, there seems to be more fords and mercuries like thisone i have, than montes and such, seems most have been skinned for late model racing,

which car body is lighter weight ? is the front/rear suspension design alright on the later 80s montes ? any known issues with them regarding street driving ? ive never owned/driven a monte before, of all the billion different vehicles ive had over the years, never had a 5.0L ford or a monte, have had an 80 cutlass before though, and i think another one before that, i forgot now,

thanks for anything

I'm a Ford guy, but I think should leave the Cougar complete and get the Monte. Those last MC's they built were nice looking but you don't see many around. Sounds like you found your match.

Ok, I'm a Chevy guy and I would keep the Cougar. Atleast it's got some balls and you know it's a runner.

The standard monte carlos aren't anything to get excited about IMO, especially brown ones.

Maybe I got lost, but...your neighbor wants the Cougar but you're going to trade it to somebody else for an MC??

I'm more partial to the MC, especially if you have any SBCs lying around. Points to look for on any G Body, which includes that MC, are the bottoms of the doors and the rear frame. Both rust out and good used doors are reeaalllly hard to find. Many came with 200R4 trans, which is a definite plus over the TH200, 3-speed.

Good luck

I agree. Minimum requirement for Monte is a console.

Minimum requirement is a console?!? man you are picky. Those are hard to find. I would take the Monte. It is the same car as your old cutlass underneath and can be made into a good cruiser or potential G-machine without a whole lot of work. If it had the F-41 (rear sway bar and front end braces) that would really be cool. Ditch the Cougar, get that Monte! G-bodies are great.

no its not brown, its bright copper kind of color

it runs and drives

no its not rusted

fords are junk

yes i traded the ferd to the neighbor for the monte

the ferd is rust bucket and has a few electrical dash issues and the rear axle lost all its fluid

thats why i was just gonna pull the 5.0 and junk the car

the monte is worth more than the ferd engine

but i was just unsure which way to go,

but im saving myself pulling an engine(for now at least) and gaining a solid complete monte,

standard, smandard,
its hard to find ANY monte, let alone a solid one, let alone a complete one, let alone a running one,

rare in the salt belt here

thanks for anything else
