trading friend for 12 bolt

will a 76 gm 12 bolt rear end fit my A-body el camino without major modification? my friend is getting ready to ditch his rear for a dana 60 to make his beast better on the trails.

he gave me an opportunity to trade something straight up for it.

its a 12 bolt which came stock on his truck, which is a '76 gmc jimmy. im hopefully putting this into a 68 el camino. which will include all aftermarket suspension along the lines of traction bars/ no hop bars.

he said drum brakes will need rebuilding. how much does that usually run?

the only problem i can guess by looking is that his 12 bolt has the tabs/perches for the shocks welded on opposite sides of the axle, so there is on shock in front one in back. and ive never seen a chevelle like that.

can anyone point me somewhere i can figure out the interchangeability?

Not only are they not close, a truck 12 bolt stock is no stronger than a good 8.5" 10-bolt. Not worth it in my opinion.

Thanks for the link homebrew! I always bookmark info for future use and reference! Hey Cameano...I can't believe you're considering a 12 bolt in trade for your friend....seems like he would be worth more!
