tranny cooler temp

what is operating temp on a tranny........is there a minimum temp it should reach.........like for evaporating any condensation or water?....I am still contemplating buying a cooler but dont want to hurt anything either, I think there is a minimum temp to get to but dont know what it is.....I live in ohio, and it does get cold here...........primary reason is I have the 4L60 in a 91 olds 88 and these I have heard are extremely expensive to rebuild so the idea is to make it last

Here´s a chart showing trans temp/failure.
Without using a rad with the trans oil going though it my trans usually gets up to 180º and stays there, even in the hot weather we´ve had.
I do have a 8 x 11 B/M cooler in front of the rad for the trans and an auxilliary cannister filter. Fluid through the cooler is controlled by a 180º thermostat. The thermostat on startup allows 10% of the fluid to flow through the cooler and opens fully at 180º.

Here is a pic of my trans and oil coolers, the trans cooler is to the left.
The thermostat is to the left of the cooler.
This is an old pic, the coolers now sit further back up against the rad.
I´ve given a link to an engine oil thermostat, the trans one is the same,
I could´nt find the trans version.
(´scuse the tatty appearance)

interesting.........should be very easy to hook up, although its hard to tell where the lines go as a schematic, but the thermostat looks like a fuel pump
