I agree with Willy36 the hole is there on purpose.
Had this problem on a TH400 I sold. It was from a car but went into a van which had the yokehole. Turned out the car tranny was vented internally so needed the none-hole yoke. It quit leaking after replacement with a solid yoke, so your's must be a faulty seal or so, the tranny shop that rebuilt it should repair.
