I too wonder the same question.....I always thought a tranny cooler is just a tube with fins to disapate temperature.....so how could a plain tube be directional? Same with cooling thru radiator(as I am doing)? I do know that the Bottom line on the tranny is the OUT line and the Top line is the Return Line......so if a Cooler has directional info ; there you go.....but on a radiator where the trans cooling connections are at the bottom; I have no clue.

Fitting Location......Thread Size.......Flow Direction
Upper......................¼" Pipe............Return/in
Lower......................¼" Pipe............Cooler feed/out

Plumb the auxiliary cooler after the fluid has passed through the radiator cooler first.

Not all common GM trannys use the bottom as the cooler feed, the TH200C Metric and 2004R are opposite this.

cobalt327 answered your question quite well.

It actually does not matter how the lines are hooked up since there should be no check valves in this cooler system on the 700r4 trans.

the cooler system is under pressure , make the proper rated hose is used.
