Tranny problem resolved (I think)
Some were wondering what happened with the tranny problem I had back a month ago (ie: 1965 Corvette M21 Muncie 4 spd - at idle, it would grind going into reverse & I could not get into forward gears from neutral position).
It turns out to have been the pressure plate. Examination of the pressure plate surface shows that about 1/2 of the plate ring surface has a dark bluish brown color like it is burned. The other half is clean. This looks like the plate is either warped or the press plate and housing were not assembled properly at the factory.
It was 1 month past Centerforce's 90 day warranty when this problem arose. Nevertheless, Centerforce, visavee their local race shop distributer, would NOT replace it or refund the cost (NOT COOL). So we had to buy a new clutch and pressure plate. I am trying to work it out with the folks that removed and reinstalled it for me at no cost (COOL).
Another Centerforce "Dual Friction" clutch and press plate has been installed, and so far after 3 weeks it runs great. One thing though. Right after I got the car running again, the clutch pedal broke off at the pivot point. I put a new one in. Maybe that had something to do with this all along. Who knows. The Corvette mistique continues.
