Shifter

Well you have two things to work out. First, get a shift kit and go for it. There are several types of kits to handle your needs. As far as down shifting goes, trannys are made that way. I t all works on the RPM of your engine driving the torque converter, which pumps up the fluid, which, at varying speeds pressurizes the valved body and causes the internal automatic system to shift gears. At certain speeds the transmission is set to change by way of a modulator setup. There are many items involved in the function of an automatic. Get the book on the transmission you are using and also an in-depth book on rebuilding the tranny. Doing shift kits are not very difficult.
You need to have a clean area and be able to read and follow directions. You must know the difference between inch pounds and inch ounces. This is the most critical in building a transmission, besides being able to follow the diagrams on the valve body assembly. Have a reliable source work with you if you plan on doing this yourself. I would recommend paying the professional that will give you the warranty on the work. 2 years or 20K miles is worth every penny spent when things go wrong. Good luck and have fun. It really is not as hard as it might seem. But, remember, the parts required are almost worth having the pros do it for you. Plan on spending a minimum of $750.00 in speed parts up to $2,500.00 if you plan on racing this transmission.
