Trans in 91 Ford Bronco

I just traded for a 91 Ford Bronco and the trans feels like it is taking off in 3rd gear, and it will not shift. I had a trans shop tell me it was the main brain box and it would cost $600 to fix. I have never messed with the newer trans that are elec. shift. Has anyone ever had this happen.
Thanks for the info.

Thanks for the info everyone. The more I think about it I may just pull the 5.0 and stick it in my 63 Ranchero. And then put a 68 302 and C-4 that I have back in the Bronco and just use it as a off road toy. I have been wanting to put a 5.0 in the Ranchero any way. I could sell any thing I don't need from the Bronco to do the swap. Again thanks for the info
