Trans. Dyno

I'd like to biuld a transmission dyno to test transmissions. Can it be done? Cost? Materials needed?

You could build a test stand with some type of running engine, a rearend (or motorhome style driveshaft mounted brake), driveshaft, adjustable stand, several pressure gauges, etc.

It would let you know the approx stall speed, shifting, shift timing, etc.
You could test pressures on the stand in each gear, or from each port anyway. Check for crossleaks, etc..

You can build a dyno, but I bet you can find a used one cheaper and easier.
Look in business journals and the regular paper for tech school sales ro trans shops that are liquidating. Depending on what you want to test, building a reliable, accurate and safe dyno will easily exceed $2000.00 in parts and labor. EXCELLENT fabrication skills and machine shop experience is required.
