Trans ID ORION? manual 3 or 4 spd

Het guys I found this in the bone yard the other day, All the spots for the linkages are in the same place as a M21, T-10, or saginaw, but the cover to open her up is on the top of the tranny. Here's some digits from it
Main casting on case: ORION 2603150 then on the other side there's a tag that says KAP OU 2 1 (outside the tag very large)

Tailshaft: Tag R-LP-QO/ other side of TS 2601407 a weird little symbol and a vertical 3 right at the end.

I believe it to be a ford top loader of some kind but I'm a chevy guy and this ones throughin me for a loop. I'll try and post some photos shortly. Thanks
Danny

I am fairly sure out of the 100,000 plus transmissions I have owned in the last 25 years that I have had several of these.

However, the info you gave, in particular "KAP OU 2", is NOT correct so there is no way to determine what you have. By Ford definition it is IMPOSSIBLE for the first digit to be a "K" and I have NEVER seen a "P" in the third position. The "O" is not possible either since Ford never uses a letter "O" in ANY position for this type of tag number, although they do use it in other numbers. Most common letters are "A" and "B" with ford sometimes using "C", "D", "E", & "F". I don't ever recall seeing any other letters there.

Once you get correct information, you might want to use a search engine before asking here. Google can find all kinds of information faster than anyone here.

If it's out of a Ford and looks like a toploader. Then the ORION means its a 3 spd overdrive. Not junk but not built as strong as the toploader either. Go check out David Kee. http://www.davidkeetoploaders.com/imposters.htm

That would probably get the best responses and results. Most people that are familiar with a wide range of transmissions can at least determine origin from a pic...that will get you a place to start.

Looks like a common RAN-type Ford 3 speed transmission to me. Are you able to get a good pic of the tag?
