trans not workin help!
I have a th350 in my trans am and i have a 350sbc doin 300 hp and 400 ftlbs of torque. i pulled out of the garage today and put it in first gear(auto trans)
and pressed the gas it chirped the tires then just revved up but the wheels didnt move , it like its stuck in neutral i cant even find park does ne 1 know whats goin on here cause ive check the linkage and i dont believe that that is the problem let me know MONEYPIT

It does sound like a linkage problem. Can you disconnect the shift linkage at the trans and click through the gear detentes?
Failing that check to make sure your vacuum line from the trans to the engine is connected and not plugged. If that should disconnect, the trans gets all kinds of confused. Of course, the obvious is the check the oil level.

im gonna get the car in the air and remove the linkage and reset it and see if thats the prob. im afraid that the pump went. but u have to take into consideration that the trans is new and doesnt even have 5 mile on it!

I would raise the vehicle and disconnect the linkage. Then try placing it in gear manually. If the arm turns easilly and does not appear to have detents, the linkage inside the trans has come loose. The pan will need to be removed to reconnect it. If it feels like it does have detents, you need to determine if the trans is working and the car shifter isn't. If the car shifter is moving the shift linkage on the trans correctly, then I would pull the pan and see if the shift valve is being moved by the linkage, or if the "s" clip has come out of position.
I wouldn't worry about the vacuum line being hooked up. It only affects the shift, and will not prevent the vehicle from moving.

What adtkart said...the nut holding the detent lever on inside of the pan has a nasty habit of coming loose.

I have to comment that I had the vacuum line come undone on my 350 trans and it wasn't motivated to move.

i pulled the trans today and removed the pan only to discover that there was a small pile of shavings in the pan and filter we are assuming that the pump shaft might of snapped but will have to investigate

well havnt figured out what made the shavings yet but dismantled the trans to discover that all 3 clutch packs burnd up !
