trans swap in 90 caprice

hey guys have a 90 caprice 305 with 200-r4 thats slipping real bad! I have a rebuilt th200(c) out a monte carlo with torque convertor i wanna use not really worried about overdrive since the car is driven locally and barely driven over 60mph. 1.will i be able to use all my assesories like driveshaft tv cable flywheel etc? 2. Will i be able to move the crossmember up a few inches so i can bolt the mount?3. How can i identify if its a 200 or 200 c? All help and suggestions are well appreciated

yes, yes, and the 200c has the connector on the drivers side of the trans for t.c.c. control like your 200-4r does. may need to re-route the wiring for lockup to work, but it shouldnt take much.
same converter for the 200 is the same as the 200-4r

if that be the case, then you dont have a 200c. that would be a 350. they make those as well with lockup available ( still on driver side of case but higher up, vertical plug in instead of horizontal like the 200c), only difference is on a 350, its only a 2 prong plug, but it can still be wired for t.c.c. control.
also, if it a th350, you will have to run a vacuum line from that nipple, to a full vacuum source on the engine. and you will have to buy a kick down cable for the 350 as the cable for the 200c and the 200-4r are not the same as a th350.

yeah i think its a 200c/200 the pan looks identical to the ones online i searched. I see ima have to drill some holes in the frame on each side to mount the crossmember! What gears would be best for that trans not set on which wheels ima put on yet between my welds or my 18s since the car is now lowered

does the bottom of the pan say "METRIC"? if not, and it has the vacuum modulator, then it IS a th350, and not a 200, as the 200 does not have a vacuum modulator.
2.73-3.08 rear gears should work fine for that.
im kinda surprised that it doesnt have 2 sets of holes drilled for the x-member as these cars also came with the 700r4 and the mount location is in a bit different than the 200-4r.

The TH200C TC is the same as the YTH2004R?

What about the TH350C- is the TC for it the same as the TH200C and the TH2004R? I'm thinking they're not interchangeable.

the 350c converter is not the same as the stator splines are different then the 200c and 200-4r, and input shaft as well if im not mistaken.
im not on my pc right now, so i dont have my trans stuff file available at this time, but i will by this evening, and will correct myself if im wrong and give the appropriate info. i do know that the 200c and 200-4r converter is the same.
if i remember right, based on transtars old part# system, the 350c took a gm15, and the 200c and 200-4r took a gm16. but like i said, i will verify.

OK. I'm a little surprised (well, a LOT surprised, actually) that the 200C and the 2004R TC's are interchangeable. It's a good day when something new is learned! Thanks.

ok cobalt, i finally got on my pc and found what i was looking for. i had the right part numbers, but for the opposite converters. the 200c, 200-4r, and the 325-4l all take the gm15 series converters with the exception of a diesel, which is a gm 19 (these are old transtars # as the newer #'s start with a bu). the 350c was a gm16.

since its a 200c and rebuilt wit b&m shift kit and now 3 gears will that improve some 1/4 mile times? Whats will the stall be at since they all say it will be higher with that tc? Will 373s be fine in it as far as on the highway and cruising around?

the 200c is notorious for being a weak trans as it is and would not be recommended for any racing application unless the internal hard parts that are typical for failure have been replaced with updated/ stronger parts.
also, the 1st gear ratios between the 200c and the 200-4r are the same or really close so you wouldnt notice any improvement in 1/4 times, just on cruise with the o.d. in the 200-4r as it will have lower rpms in 4th and help provide better mileage.
with the metric 200c, to make it highway friendly at all, depending on tire diameter, 3.08's or 2.73's would be a better choice without too many revs, or at least getting reasonable fuel mileage.

now starting from scratch

ok just went out to check the trans out very good! It has 13 pan bolts 6" tailshaft and a vacuum modulator in the right side....which identifies as the th350 27 splines and has a convertor with it! Now as i start all over what will i need to do to make that swap possible? Im kinda upset i didnt pay too much attention but i kno i have a way stronger trans that will hold some hp and maybe roll some heavy wheels if i decide to put my 18s on
