trans or trasfer case ???
Well My 97 burb has been making this "ting" noise for a while when going from park to either reverse or drive,thought it was a u-joint since the sound was like a joint going bad, but now it wont engage 4 wheel and the "ting" seems louder.
The "ting" would happen in either 2 or 4 wheel when going from park to any gear. When I try the 4-wheel now it just blinks I know it could be the servo but would that make noise even when just shifting into drive from park in 2 wheel? If it is the transfer case can it just be swapped without pulling the trans? The truck is a k1500 with the 5.7 gas motor Thanks Brian kc0kfg

Still could be a U-joint. There is a 'shift motor' on the T-case that can be changed out. This is what physically shifts it to 4WD.
