transbrake basics

how is a tranbrake "used"? I mean literally, what does a driver do to launch with it compared to doing a footbrake burnout/launch?

what ive heard is that it lets you launch at a higher rpm without using the brake pedal.

I want a tci competition trans with a brake. it will be in a mostlystreet car- is it practical? keep in mind I drive extremely hard on cars (read: i want to flog it without having to worry)and I feel that driving only becomes funner when there are more things the driver has to manually control.

The transbrake locks the transmission between two gears so it mechanically cannot move. This makes it so you do not have to use the brake pedal and with a rev limiter - you can launch with the release of a button (more accurate using your finger/thumb for a launch instead of your foot releasing the brakes).

For the street - no real advantage except a cool toy. For the track, it definately improves your reaction time consistancy

On mine, I just stage the car with the brakes, turn up the music, push the button, release the brakes, floor the throttle, release the button on the last amber, and leave hard with the hoops hangin.

Your converter will dictate how high you chip your ignition for the pre-launch rev limit. This limit does not control your top end rev limiter however.

I chip mine for 6000 rpm and will chip down if track conditions dictate.

You might enjoy it on the street as it will sound like a car free wheelin on the rev limiter and side stepping the clutch. You will then quickly go up in smoke though. Just dont mount the button anywhere you can hit it accidently because you will be skidding wildly out of control.

There's another style (at least for 200R4's) that are activated whenever the shifter is in manual 1st gear. Once staged, you have the shifter in 1st (transbrake is on). To leave you shift into 2nd (the trans will actually shift into 2nd whenever the governor setting dictates), from this point on, you can manually shift into 3rd... Seems a bit scary for street use, wouldn't want to accidentally shift into 1st while moving!

I'll mention one item here;

Most transbrake transmission operates at higher main line pressures since it is a racing tranny.

Higher pressures mean more wear on the pump and more heat is developed.

I would not suggest a trans brake transmission for street use.

Which transmission with a transbrake are you thinking of installing?
