on transfer case conversion question

We are also converting a np 203 to an np 205, 32 spline. Where do you get the adapter kits for a GM 203 to 205? thanks for the advice. c

Adapters for any "racetrack" type 205 are expensive and hard to find because they are old and lots of them have broken over the years and have been replaced. The later round style is also hard to find mainly because of a limited production run.

you will need to do lots of junkyard and online searching to find al the parts needed to convert from full to part time

this is why most ppl just put part time hubs on the full time trucks

because its just so much $ and trouble to convert because you have to swap so many parts over you practically need an entire donor truck

i have a th400 205 1980 k20 truck out back sitting in the woods if you need pics of the correct crossmember and adapter and so on

of course 400 spline are different than other trannies and henceforth the transfer case as well

32 spline was most or all th400

83 and up or so was a new W-shaped crossmember and a spline count change too for some of the trannies and cases, such as the CH465 4 speed manal trans which changed from 10 to 32 spline(same as th400) i had an 83 K20 like this i drove for a year and it was a great truck.

it gets pretty complicated and confusing to most ppl in short order.

so..

205 32 spline:

400 and 205:

400 to 205:

85-up 400 and 205:

True only if you are talking most transfer cases. I have heard of, but not yet seen, a factory 400 that had 27 splines into a transfer case. Aftermarket 27 spline 4x4 shafts are available also.

If you are talking all 400s, regardless of application, there is a 4x4 10-spline output specifically for late 70s Jeeps with QuadraTrack transfer cases and a 27 spline 2wd output for the 9" extension housing. The last is officially called a 375THM, but except for the tail and shaft, everything is identical to a 400.
