transfer swap

I was wondering if you could take a 203 transfer off of the automatic transmission and stick it on an 4 speed transmission?

I only got into the bigger 205 cases: There is the adapter housing between any type trans and the 205 T-case. They are all different for: th-350, th400, 4-speed standard. I would think the 203 would have adapter housings as well?

Then most likely the 2wd 4 speed will need the output shaft changed too.

I doubt the stuff is still available from GM.

GM used three different output shafts (TH350, TH400, and 4 speed). You can get adapters to use the NP205 with various transmissions, but I think the NP203 was only used with the automatic transmission. I doubt that there is a stock adapter to use the NP203 with a 4 speed.

The NP-203 was never put behind the SM-465 transmission in stock form, and with the rate the stock chains stretch wouldn't be a good idea for very long anyway. If you could eliminate the chain stretch you would still have an awful heavy hunk of iron under there not rated for a whole heck of a lot of torque. Any amount of abuse would toast the effort put into the swap.

Otherwise, Like stated, you would need the appropriate adapter.
The TH-350 had adapters for Dana-20, NP-203, NP-205, and maybe a couple others I never had much dealings with personally.
The TH-400 had adapters for NP-203, NP-205, at least one Borg Warner, and maybe some others I never had much time to work on.
The TH-700R4 had adapters for the NP-205, NP-208, and some Borg Warner models.
The SM-465 transmission was only fitted with the NP-205 from what all I have seen in all my years.

The adapters were all different in that for each transmission, they would adapt to all the cases, and vice-versa.
