Vans and pickups for the 70's and 80's had a 3 speed with OD that works well and bolts to a stock of those should work out for you..

I have tried most all of it and now do what is known to work..

I would either go for a
late 60s Ford 303 3 speed,
a Ford top loader 4 speed,
even a Borg Warner T-10 4 speed, or
the Borg Warner/Tremec World Class T-5 5 speed (overdrive).

The T-5 is the less strong, but will be fine behind most every 302. Find one from a 90 or later Mustang GT 5.0. The T-5 takes an unique bellhousing compared to the others.

I prefer diaphram clutches.

Tranny for 302

I have 3-speed manual top loader from a late 60s Mustang I need to sell cheap. It comes with a new clutch pressure plate and disc but no bell housing. If you are interested email me. Otherwise I am going to put it on ebay on Sunday. Need the cash to pay for all of my other parts and machining.

I've decided to go with a AOD (automatic overdrive) which I got with all the serpentine belts and pullies and accessories my 302 was lacking from the junkyard out of a mid 80s 5.0 Lincoln Town Car.
