Transmission cooler

I got a little truck project i'm doing and i plan on using an older style 53' f100 radiator.. I was just thinking this all over before i try and hook it all up.. I have a c6 trans i'll be putting in the truck BUT the radiator doesn't have any coolant hookups for the transmission. So could i just hook a universal radiator cooler up to the transmission and that would work fine or do i have to do anything extra for it to be adequit cooling?

I know a guy with a 56 F-100 that is running the stock radiator on his with two coolers (one oil and one trans). However, he has fans on both of them. It works fine in his, but he had it all cleaned out and stuff by a radiator shop first. He is running a 351C and a FMX.

Just a word of caution about the old radiators: The radiator caps are only like 6# or something (check with a parts store). If you run a higher rated cap...it will come apart at the seams.

If your going to use an external cooler by itself use 1 of the self regulating coolers like these and double the size recommended.

I wonder how much a trans shop would charge to take it apart, clean and inspect it, and add a trans cooler coil in the tank? The radiator auto coolers work so well because it's fluid to fluid heat transfer, which, IIRC, is about 500 times more thermally conductive than fluid to air transfer.
