Transmission fluid in ford ranger R&P??

hey guys, I posted a while back in this forum about my ford ranger rack and pinion mated to a gm saginaw pump. I ended up putting on the manual pressure reducer which allows me to control all of the pressure in the steering system. The only thing I have left that I can think of that is still giving me my problems, is the power steering fluid. When I removed the rack from the ranger it had ATF fluid in it. I am currently running normal power steering fluid through the system. Could this be part of my issue as to why I am getting the "herky jerky" motion I am still experiencing. I know that the system is bled out, so I am thinking it could possibly be something with the fluid system. any help would be appreciated
