I got a 1972 Pontiac Lemans with a 350 chevy engine in it and the tranny leak when its in Reverse only. there a small three prong electrical connection on the passenger side of the transmission, what is it?

can't help with the leak problem, but the 3prong unit is your neutral safety switch.

Is there a gasket or o-ring on the switch if so replace or is it just pipe threads if so try tightening or put some teflon tape on it. Make sure you wrap the teflon tape in the correct direction otherwise as you screw the switch in the tape will unwrap.
