Hi~
What would be the quickest way to ID my transmission? It is in a 68 Cutlass Convertible, 2 speed behind a 350 2bbl......From previous postings I understand it would not be a Powerglide, 350 or 400......Thanks!
The Super Turbine 300 was used in Buicks, Oldsmobiles, and Pontiacs between 1964-1969. It only came with a BOP bellhousing. While it uses the same gear ratios as the Powerglide, virtually nothing interchanges between the two. Oldsmobile and Buick versions of the ST300 used the switch-pitch torque converter to get extra torque multiplication to replace the third gear.
All of the above is correct, but there is a very rare B-O-P bellhousing POWERGLIDE made. Identical to the Chevrolet model, only the bell is different. IF you have one of those, they bring a good price; then you could update to something with more gears. Just a thought.

How do you tell, from inside of the car or under the hood, if the ST300 had the VP converter? My mother had a Jetstar 88 4 dr sedan, 330 2 barrel engine, and the 2 speed ST300 trans. This was a new car and by my senior year in high school, 1969, I had driven it quite a bit. It would easily smoke the tires for 300 feet! Just wondering how the SP worked, thanks.
I've heard of the "long" Powerglide before, never seen one however. Application? The B-O-P case Glides would bring a good price for the B-O-P bracket/drag racers. I've tried bidding on the occasional one that comes up on that online auction site we all know and love, but no luck. Got any pics? Thanks.
The wire conecter on the drivers side will have 1 prong for passing gear and a secont for converter contron I believe
