transmission leak

I'm trying to install a new extension housing seal, but it's a pain in the butt trying to get the old one out. I tried prying it out but the seal will not budge. I used a good amount of force but I don't want to damage the surrounding aluminum and create an even bigger problem. Can anyone provide any suggestions?

====== any idea what trany you are working on?

some tail housings are removable and makes it easier to work on up on a bench. Usually it is best to replace the bushing too , if there is one there behind the seal
