I've got a 89 gmc 1500 pickup with a 5spd trans. when im in low rpms in any gear i get a growling noise, i believe its bearing noise. also when im at a stop in neutal, and the clutch is engaged, i get the same noise only quieter. when i disengage the clutch the noise goes away. am i correct in assuming the input shaft bearing could be shot? are their any other possible things it could be?any input or help would be great.

you have to replace the countershaftgearcluster rollerbearings on the 3rd tooth of 3rd gear.....

A bit harsh on the lad, in 1948 a 16 yo 32 Ford pick up with an Edelbrock manifold and a couple of carbs was a hot rod. In 2006 a 17 yo 89 GMC with (hopefully) a mod or two isn't?
The Kid is only 20 don't yell, tell him he's on the right track - sounds like input or cluster bearings. Why not rerace the box while it's out? Cheaper than doing it twice. Experience and guidance is better than experience alone.

Hotrod389- didn't feel it was neccisary to tell you i have re-cammed my engine and done various other things to my truck to ask for help with my trans, its enthusiast like yourself that discourage others from asking questions. i may be young and not drive the trickest hotrod on the circuit but to me thats what it is. maybe next time you will use your head before posting.

looks like someone forgot to take their midol..
third tooth of third gear??? bad advise and lack of knowledge... this board is for help, hotrod or not... sounds like a timeout is in order...

No need to be a butt face! If you don't like answering (non hotrod questions) Then don't! There are lots of people on this board that like to help with anything. Even if its not car related.

you have never replaced the bearings on 1 tooth of a gear???

i just despise new cars... if im at fault.. then so be it
