Transmission problem

1990 Olds 88, 3.8L engine, 4T60 trans.
122k mi....most recent trans. service 112k[changed fluid
and filter]

Transmission shudders when starting off under normal to
heavy acceleration . It disappears at around 10mph.
It does not seem to happen under light acceleration or
light load. It does not happen in reverse.
Otherwise it seems to operate normally.
I checked the fluid and it looked ok and at the right level.
What is causing this shudder and would adding and additive
to the transmission oil help?
Thanks for your help.
Joe

Nothing in any can will fix a slipping tranny...which is what it sounds like you have.

Don't waste your money on additives.

Over time the clutch packs in a tranny get a build up on the friction surfaces. While not a good thing, it is normal...and can actually kepp a tranny pulling.

When you flush a tranny with alot of miles on it you remove those deposits. Often those same deposits you want to get rid of are helping a worn tranny still pull properly. now the clutches will slip.

so, basically, your tranny flush probably caused your problems.

The only real solution is to take it to a reputable tranny shop and have it checked.

low band is either almost completely broken or just plain wore out, time to rebuild it.
