Which transmission should I use?

So I'm stumped on this one...

I've got a 400 sbc that I put in a '62 Chevy II. The motor is reasonably built close to 500 hp. I have 3.73 gears in the rearend. I'm planning on using the car to just rip around while I'm in high school.

Now the question...I've got a th350 that came with the car when I bought it but I assume I'm going to have to rebuild it so I was considering getting a manual. Would the m20 or 21 be better and is it worth the extra cost compared to the th350?

Not an easy question to answer.

First of all, do you want to shift or not? 500 hp in high school... good for you. Sounds like money is no issue. So, again, do you want to shift or not? You have to answer that question first.

500 hp and 3.73s in a light car with money being no option? Sounds like T56 to me.

I hadn't even considered a T56....I assumed they would be way more than I can spend. I'm not really sure how much I want to spend yet on the trans but I did spend a lot on the motor so I feel like I mine as well spend a little on the trans as well.

But I do like the thought of a manual but I don't have one laying around which is why the 350 is still an option.

Is the T56 worth the cost?
