You would have to take the trans apart and convert it to a 2wd trans by changing the output shaft,adding a speedo gear to the output shaft, and putting an extension housing on it....then it would be good to go.
No cutting required. However, if the trannys are different- like one's a TH350 and the other's a TH400- there can be differences in the front yoke, driveshaft length and where the crossmember/tranny mount is located. That's in addition to the changes in the tailshafts and housings. If that's the case, be sure to get the driveshaft from the vehicle the tranny is coming from; you can often make one good d-shaft from two.
If one is a manual and the other AT, you are in for more fun, and a LOT more if you're putting in a manual in place of an AT.
