Trany Diagnosis

My friend( Honestly it is for a friend) just baught a 53 ford crestline with the origional Flathead and Fordomatic transmision. The engine runs great, no smoke, and starts fine. There is no unusual noises from the transmision and it seems to be acting fine. The only problem is that everyonce in a while trans fluid splashes back up out the dipstick tube. Enough to leave about a 1 foot diam puddle under the car.

Any idea what could be causing this? He wants to rebuild the trany but me being a cheapskate was thinking it might just need a good internal cleaning. By the way it has 80,000 miles on it.

this is usally caused by the vent port being pluged, I could'nt tell you where this one is located at , there
usally at the top of the trans.

Thank you.

As soon as we pull it its getting a good cleaning and going over. I'll make sure the vent(if I can find it) is open.
